Violence by pupils - and parents - against teachers soars
Haaretz - October 4, 2003

There was a steep rise in reported violence against teachers by both pupils
and parents over the last school year.
Police opened 54 percent more criminal investigations of violence against
teachers in the 2002-3 school year than in the preceding year, according to
figures released by the police youth division.
A Geocartographia poll conducted for the Secondary Schools Teachers
Association showed that over the past two years, 7 percent of all high
school teachers had reported instances of physical violence against them by
students, and that 8 percent had experienced physical violence by parents.
The figures were made public Monday at a Knesset Education Committee
discussion on violence in schools.
All participants in the discussion agreed with Teachers Union Deputy
Secretary-General Ofra Dunsky, who said the statistics were merely the "tip
of the tip of the iceberg."
