YOU ARE GOING OFF TRACK! Let's get back to English and English
teachers....
1) The teachers were getting a gmul bagrut for each module. It should have
remained that way. Module B, D and F are NOT less work than the other
modules and just because they are internal does not mean they don't have to
be done for the bagrut and they don't have to be graded. As a matter of
fact, they are more work than preparing the unseens and writing for the
other modules. So maybe if that gmul had not been removed, this whole
protest would not have begun.
2) The literature program is not at stake because of the literature but
because of the enormous amount of forms that have to be filled out and the
ridiculous way of calculating the grade in percentages for each story and
poem. That is the endless work, not the teaching of the story itself. So
maybe, if each teacher taught the literature the way he/she sees fit and
gave one grade for each unit, this whole protest would not have begun...
3) Ran Erez apparently doesn't know what he is protesting against.... The
teachers shouldn't check book reports... now how much work is that!
Module B involves teaching 2 stories and one poem over THREE years. That
too is really a lot of work... isn't it? Maybe if Ran Erez knew what this
is about, this whole protest would not have begun.
So maybe it is time to revise the protest and see what everyone is
complaining about - how teaching can become user friendly as it was in the
old days...(literature was always a part of the curriculum) and how the
teachers can be compensated for preparing pupils for bagrut in all fields
whether internal or external.
AT long last, the pupils are doing meaningful work and enjoying it so why
not go back to doing unseens all year... Isn't that absurd! Teaching
literature should not be a burden. It should make teaching and learning
more interesting and more enjoyable.
