Teachers win reduced quota for grading English-language exams

In a bid to meet demands by striking evaluators of the English matriculation
exam, the Education Ministry is recruiting graders it had previously fired
for unsatisfactory performance, Anglo File has learned. As reported earlier
this week by Haaretz, following negotiations the ministry agreed to reduce
the evaluators' work load - which teachers described as "degrading and
impossibly high." At a briefing yesterday, the evaluators accepted the
compromise deal reducing their work quota anywhere between 10 and 40
percent. The 300-odd graders are expected to fully resume work on the exams,
known in Hebrew as the Bagrut, this Sunday.
