Livnat sets up 'national task force' to promote education
Haaretz - September 21, 2003

The government on Sunday approved the appointment of a committee described
by Education Minister Limor Livnat as a "national task force for the
promotion of education in Israel," to be headed by ECI-Telecom chairman
Shlomo Dovrat.

Livnat decided to appoint the committee a few months ago following continued
failures by Israeli students in international exams as well as internal
Education Ministry exams in mathematics and language comprehension.

Livnat said the committee's role would be to find out "what's rotten in the
education system." She added that "the public spending on education in
Israel is among the highest in the world, and yet the students' achievements
are among the lowest in the Western world."
