**** ETNI on the web http://www.etni.org.il http://www.etni.org **** High school teachers refuse to give grades Haaretz - April 13, 2004 Labor sanctions in high schools will resume Wednesday in conjunction with the renewal of classes following Passover vacation, the secondary school teachers' union said Tuesday. As part of the sanctions, which were begun about two months ago, high school teachers will not give their students final grades. This move is considered particularly severe due to the national matriculation exams scheduled to take place in about a month, whose score is comprised partly of the final grades provided by the schools. High school teachers also said they wouldn't hold any activities outside of school, such as annual field trips. High school students have held demonstrations over the cancellation of the trips. The labor sanctions are meant to protest what teachers say are worsened pension conditions as well as the Education Ministry's intention to fire 1,500 teachers and cut some 20,000 classroom hours in high schools. ##### To send a message to the ETNI list email: etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ##### ##### Send queries and questions to: ask@xxxxxxxx #####
