First, a short introduction. For the past 2 years, I have taught a couple of Sudanese refugees in my English class; they are pupils at the High School for Environmental Studies at Midreshet Ben Gurion. They live in Eilat but were not accepted into the local high school and luckily, found generous sponsors and host families here in my community which allow them to continue their education. One of the boys, Dondiet, took part in the Music in Common (MiC) program this year; my school was paired with ORT Um Batin. He's an amazing young man, motivated and hard-working and a talented musician! At the end of the 2 day workshop, he got up and told us all , with tears in his eyes, how the past 2 days had been the best in his entire life. Consider showing this MiC video with Dondiet, a Christian Sudanese, together with Jewish and Muslim Bedouin pupils, all writing, singing and performing a song together. They all took part in filming the multimedia production. Use the video clip as a springboard for a discussion of inter-racial relations/coexistence and tolerance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbOrkxHpWdc I'd love to hear your pupils' reactions.
