This week T.E.A.M. is honored to host :
Elkan D Levy
"Carbs, Calories, and Kashrut - A History of Jewish Food."
Jewish food is famous throughout the world, but much of it was
borrowed from other cultures and some of it has influenced other
cuisines. Which famous French dish is the answer to a Jewish problem?
What happened when a Jewish fish met an Irish Potato? What was the
favorite food of Marranos in Tudor England? And who is Mrs. Elsewood?
Elkan Levy was, until is Aliyah in 2011, the Director of the Office
for Small Communities, responsibile for 70 communities in the UK, from
Truro to Margate and from Bognor to north Aberdeen. A Solicitor for
30 years, he also served as President of the United Synagogue from
1966- 1999. Educated in London, Israel, and New York, Elkan is
well-known as a dynamic lecturer who is deeply interested in British
and World Jewry, its past and its future.
