----- Original Message ----- From: Esther Revivo - estherrv@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: HOTS teaching needs hours! Renumeration aside (and we REALLY deserve it,) I see NO way to get literature taught with HOTS, plus unseens; grammar; listening comprehension; projects done with the feeble 4 hours a week we have. As other teachers have previously mentioned, at religious schools about 30% of the hours fall due to lectures; "sayeret" (when girls go romping throughout the country looking for a good place for sherut leumi the following year,) etc. Like Rachelle mentioned, I too began teaching HOTS in my hakbatza aleph 9th grade class this year to familiarize pupils with the concept of HOTS. (This I will not continue to do next year unless the Irgun gives its okay.) Even without the HOTS and literature, we cannot manage to efficiently teach what we already have on our plates. And yes, I am one of the "friariyot" who give endless hours of tigbur on my free time to help pupils prepare for their oral exams; etc. If this HOTS program is so important to the MOE, lets have some more hours to implement it PLEASE! (Plus a bit of "moolah" to help pay the bills :) Good luck everyone today, and Chag Shavuot Sameach!
