Coming as it does between parent/teacher interviews and the Christmas
holidays, it may be the handiest hot button the country has at the moment:
Homework. It was pushed here Wednesday with anecdotal tales of
elementary-school children having no time left to play, stories of stressed
teachers and angry parents and one 11-year-old going so far as to say he
"hates weekends" because there's just too much work.
