Debate in 10




"Debate in 10" is an advanced course classroom in debating. The course will
teach the secrets of involving an average English class in debating within
just 10 lessons. Theory will be eschewed for nuts-and-bolts practicality.
Participants will have hands on experience in all elements of debating and
will be encouraged to put the principles they learn into practice as the
course proceeds. The course will allow teachers to energize their lessons,
involve students in a highly active form of learning and cross hurdles
common to the Israeli classroom. The sessions will include three elements:

1)     Exploration of the principles of debate and public speaking and ways
to present them to a class.

2)     Exercises similar or identical to those that will be used in the
classroom.

3)     Discussion and review of teachers own efforts (as all teachers will
be encouraged to put the lessons learned into practice in their own
classrooms).



This short course includes seven sessions:



Session One - Introduction & Public Speaking Games



Session Two - How to build Arguments and a Speech



Session Three - Speech Delivery and Rudimentary Debating



Session Four - Hands-on Debating



Session Five - More Debating (it is, after all, a debate course)



Session Six - Side Stepping Hurdles and Dealing with Problems



Session Seven - Full Dress Rehearsal & Summary
