[ergo] AR7030 TroubleShooting

So I am trying to sort out some AR7030 problem reports, without success. I
am running both E3 and E4 on a test box using W98 with the AR7030 without
difficulty. I alternate between E4 and E3 without problems, and cannot
replicate the problems described below. Jim is running on XP, with the Plus
including NB and Notch. Giampeiro is running on ME with a plain AR7030 but
with the Notch filter added.

Reading the information mailed directly to me (see below) the common thread
seems to be "Runtime Error 100". Runtime error 100 is a disk read error,
and this is most likely happening when E4 is attempting to read the AR7030
configuration or user files when trying to open the receiver.

All I can suggest at this point is to make sure that you reset the
configuration files (Beta Properties Page) and let them be re-built when you
open the receiver the next time. NOTE: When you reset the configuration
files, you should NOT have any receivers running.

Jim also notes that his automatic update does not appear to be working under
XP. Is anyone else having that problem? I have done the last ten or so
updates on W98 and ME without trouble, including closing and restarting E4
with a receiver running.

The cascading failure / many messages is something I should be able to fix.
It is probaby the result of the "clock" in receiver module trying to issues
commands, that fail, because the control module has not opened properly.
Again, I will keep trying to replicate this so I can fix it.

Finally, there should not be any interaction between E3 and E4 running on
the same machine. They store their files in different folders, do not have
any common keys in the registry, etc. So, I cannot figure out a reason why
there would be any problems with DSI/E3 running on the same machine. If
anyone else is having this issue, I would appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks, John.

PS - Some good dx conditions today here in western Canada.

The information on the two trouble reports is as follows.

Jim Strader reports as follows:
I installed the update (automatically) and when it didn't work I uninstalled
RGO4 completely, downloaded the latest version, reinstalled ? same problem.
When I start ERGO 4.0 everything is fine, I picked my receiver, location,
colors etc. Once I click to show the AR7030Plus I get the following errors:
First off as soon as the radio graphic appears an error box pops up that
says "Catastrophic Failure". I click o.k. then a second error window pops up
and says "Runtime Error 100 at 00457B6", then in a second a zillion of
these boxes start appearing over the previous. All have the same error
message. Sometimes the program will close when I try and click "OK" on the
error message box and other times the error message boxes will close and the
radio graphic appears with the correct frequency shown and S meter working ?
BUT if I try to click any of the radio buttons (Filter, Notch etc.) on the
radio graphic I get an error message "Range Check Error". All other
functions work ? I can open my databases, I can check the propagation, I can
access the Properties, but the minute I click Radio Under "View" I get all
the errors listed above.
Now when I try and run ERGO 3.0 I get an error message " Access Violation at
address 004E1F91 in Module ERGO30.exe. READ of address 105DF2C4." After I
click o.k. the Main Ergo Window will open and I can click Radio under View
and all the correct filters/ modes are shown and they work. BUT, ERGO DSI
will not automatically appear (even though it's set to automatically start).
I can click and start ERGO-DSI by clicking on the Program Icon and I can
open all my databases BUT .. when I click or scroll down the frequencies, it
will not send it to the radio.
ALL of the above have been duplicated dozens of times over the last couple
of hours and I've uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted and I get the
same errors.
Giampierro reports as follows:
Hi John, I still have great problems with AR7030 (Instead RX320 is working
pretty well).
My 7030 is not a PLUS, but I upgraded it with Notch filter. (I use Windows
Me), but even if I reset E4 receiver I have always problems on both
configurations 7030 or 7030 plus. Very often I get this message "Errore
irreversibile", and if I try to use ILG db I get many messages: "RUNTIME
ERROR 100 AT 0004B9B6". And I have to stop. Then the Smeter works only
sometimes.
