Just across the River from Owen Park is Ward's Lake - Pay-to-Fish for
Channel Cats. I've been birding there for a couple of years but never
really had permission. Finally met the owner today and got blanket
permission for all of us.
The Lake is actually about twice as big as the lower lake at Owen park and
is often great for water birds, especially in winter. Well worth the drive
around if you are already at Owen Park. Got loons there in January. A few
years back I posted pics of a Surf Scoter at Owen park. The bird flew over
to Ward's Lake but I did not want to report it without getting permission
from the land owner - who I could not find.
This time of year you might get some sandpipers.

Call Jeff at 779-2431 as you go in.
Stay on the main dirt road that runs between the two lakes. The north and
south dirt roads are for the residences only.
Almost all birding will be from your car. No real access to the woods next
to the river - but you can do that much better from Owen Park.
Jeff has had problems with people sneaking in to catch his fish without
paying so it would be wise to not have any fishing gear in your car.
