What do I need to bring other than regular birding gear? Do you have a set
itinerary for the day? I will be able to go until 4 or 5 methinks.

Tom Bush and I birded around North Asheville yesterday as part of the
annual Spring count. (Section 3 includes Beaver Lake, Craven Gap,
most of Town Mountain Rd. parts of suburban N. / E. Asheville).
We ended up with 54 species (same number but different mix as last
year) and 280 individual birds (somewhat higher than last year 221).
Our highlights were a Yellow-billed Cuckoo in the middle of the day
at Beaver Lake, and an on-going Mandarin Duck on the golf course
side of Merrimon - both of which Tom spotted. (pictures attached).
Expected birds we missed were Brown Thrasher, Northern Flicker,
and White-breasted Nuthatch. We had a nice close look at a singing
Chestnut-sided Warbler at the Parkway/Ox Creek intersection. Other
warblers were Ovenbird, Black and White, Hooded, American Redstart,
Northern Parula, Magnolia, Palm, and Yellow-rumped.
