My joyful morning birding walk took a gloomy turn this morning. I know it is
the law of natural selection at work, but I was so sad to see that the nest
that Alan Lenk
located and gave great directions to, at Owen lake ...has been destroyed. I
have loved watching the oriole couple at their nest near the Picnic Pavillion,
but this morning I saw that the the bottom of their nest had been ripped out.
Just yesterday they were defending their eggs from a persistent crow. The
orioles are still around the lake searching for a new nesting site, I hope.
