Postdoc, Penn Center for Learning Analytics

The University of Pennsylvania Center for Learning Analytics is
recruiting for a postdoctoral researcher to become involved in our
suite of projects. Our center, directed by Ryan Baker, conducts
federally and university-funded research on student learning and
engagement within online and blended learning environments. Our
projects span from elementary school students to adult learners, and
involve data from Massive Open Online Courses, intelligent tutoring
systems, simulations, microworlds, and games.

The postdoc will develop and apply machine learning and analytics
techniques on logs of student interaction from online learning
systems, working under the supervision of Dr. Ryan Baker and Dr.
Jaclyn Ocumpaugh, and will join an active research team of graduate
students and researchers working to understand student learning and
engagement using the big data now becoming available from online and
blended learning.

Required

·         Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence,
Psychology, Education, or related area

·         Research experience in data mining, analytics, machine
learning, learning analytics, affective computing, user modeling,
computational linguistics, natural language processing, or related
areas

·         Strong interest in conducting applied research in education
that builds basic understanding of learning, while benefiting
real-world learners

·         Ability to pass a clearance to work in schools


Desired

·         Experience in using software packages, infrastructures, and
languages such as (but not limited to) RapidMiner, scikit-learn,
numpy, scipy, AWS, and Java.

·         Experience working in interdisciplinary and collaborative teams

·         Experience with scientific publication and writing


Job Details

·         Start date is negotiable; position is initially for one
year, and is renewable for additional years, contingent on performance
and funding
