metacog (www.metacog.com) is an internet scale educational data platform
built to ingest data from hundreds of learning objects (simulations and
game-based learning objects) used by millions of students. The platform is
a fault-tolerant, distributed system built on the AWS platform that
supports both batch and real-time educational data processing with
reporting and analytics capabilities. We are looking for an experienced
data scientist to help us build machine learning models to detect learner’s
affective states and behaviors as they are using the software. Basically
the data scientist will be talking to our top learning science advisor and
working closely with dev-ops to implement the machine learned models in
spark.

· Two years experience in applied data science or data science-related
degree

· Programming skills e.g. Python, Scala, R

· Knowledge about machine learning algorithms such as logistic
regression, support vector machines, decision trees, random forest and
k-means clustering

· Familiarity with cloud computing (AWS)

· Experience with social programming tools (GitHub)

· Strong written and verbal communication

BONUS

· Experience with distributed data processing (Spark, MapReduce)

· Experience working with educational data sets

· Software or web development experience
