I work at at a career and tech school so I think it is very important for us
to keep up with technology. But if the technology is not maintained or the
money is used to spend on technology and cut positions then I feel it
createsan educational problem rather than resolves one.

Computers are really a tool to use in instruction, they are not instruction
itself. I do agree with Stoll that it doesn't take long to teach students
todo word processing or surf the Internet. So, allowing students to just
hang out on the computer without a purpose is really irresponsible on the
part of the teacher and the parent. Computers used in place of real life
experiences is sad. In order for students to be succesful readers and
writers they need real life experiences to draw from and a computer is a
poorsubstitute for that.

So, I think that spending more money to purchase computers should be a well
thought decision. It would be important to look at the quality of
instructionthat is currently going on in your school and determine the
purposes for using the computers.
