Hello neighbours,

Are you interested to learn more about leadership, what it entails, how it
impacts on followers, what you want from a leader or a follower, and how
your ‘gut feelings’ influence your actions? With not too much theory, but
lots of practice? Then you could try it out with us… (and also find out
what dancing has done for our work life!) J

At this year’s ESRC Festival of Social Science, there will be two ‘taster’
sessions on leadership and followership: Leadership Revisited: Leading with
Mind, Heart and Body. Each is a standalone workshop. Places are free, but
need to be booked in advance. More information and links to booking can be
found at http:// ;<http://festivalofsocialscience.group.shef.ac.uk/>

Each event is an interactive journey of discovery of what embodied
cognition means for leadership, opening participants’ senses to themselves
as well as others. Based on research into leadership, followership,
communication and embodied cognition, it takes a new look at ‘thinking on
our feet’: We think with our bodies as well as our brains, as cognitive
processes are at least in part based on physical experiences of the body.
Based on the facilitators’ work with managers and health professionals, the
workshops explore a different way of learning about leadership and
followership: participants discover their own leading or following style –
how we lead with the whole body, not just the brain, giving new insight on
how we interact with others. We will use hands-on, practical exercises,
based on dance, to look at how we lead and how we follow – and what we
expect from leaders and followers respectively. Join in and experience,
explore and experiment in a safe, fun environment where participants can
push their boundaries and not worry about looking silly!

Workshop 1: Saturday 5 Nov, 10:30-13:30 (open to all)
Venue: Hallam Hall, Owen Building Level 6, City Campus, Sheffield Hallam
University (main building, near main entrance)

Workshop 2: Tuesday 8 Nov, 17:30-20:30 (also open to all, but more
specially aimed at professionals)
Venue: The Circle Conference Suite, The Circle, 33 Rockingham Lane,
Sheffield S1 4FW

All the best,
Ramen & Fides

P.S. This is not a dance class! You won’t need dance shoes, but comfortable
clothes (easy for moving around in) and smooth soles are highly recommended.

P.P.S. If you want to know more about the underlying research, email us -
we'll send you the links.
