Glory, I had forgotten about "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm", though don't
remember much about it. Haven't seen any other L. M. Montgomery to date
except the Anne books. Only read about them.

I read "Emily Of New Moon" many years ago. It's sort of a cross between the
Anne books and "Rebecca Of SunnyBrook Farm".

Clare,

No, I haven't read "The Blue Castle" or any other L. M. Montgomery apart
from the Anne books of which there are eight though the first three are the
best. There is also apparently the "Emily of New Moon" trilogy, a book
called "The Story Girl", plus two collections of letters, some published
diaries and oceans of short stories.

The first book I ever borrowed from the first library I ever joined was
"Anne of the Island"; I thought it was "Anne of Avonlea" but on re-reading I
discovered otherwise.

No, I am not writing about her specifically, or not exclusively, although am
astonished by how much she influenced my early thoughts, ideas and
vocabulary. Last year in the UK a book called "The Library Book" was issued,
to raise the profile of public libraries and endeavour to prevent more of
them closing. (Contributors include Stephen Fry, Lionel Shriver of "Kevin"
fame and Alan Bennett.)
Astonishingly, to me at least, I have been invited to contribute to the
Australian equivalent and wanted to go back to basics as it were for a
jumping off point for the article.

Hope that makes sense,

Elaine
