I had never thought of this for literature, Elaine, but how right you are that it's best to know the rules before you break them. I've often thought it for music, particularly with reference to the pseudo-classical music that is written in enormous amounts for modern church use. I tried to read Dear Fatty, because I like Dawn French, but just found it very annoying and gave up. Clare
