9/5, 9/12, and 9/19 are all no good for me. It'll have to be 9/26 or later for
me.

Other than 9/12, I am pretty open in September.

If the current winds hold up it will be good.

Hello All,

Let’s start thinking about another balloon launch date and the pre-flight
date. I have another tracker built. It weighs in at 315 grams (11.1 oz). I
am using alkaline batteries now but will change to lithium for the flight
and that should reduce the battery weight. It is setup to use two suspension
lines. Any open dates in September? Saturdays are best for me.

Dan,

I just need to charge the cameras. It can be ready to fly tomorrow.

Why a simulated file? Wouldn't it be good to just assemble the tracker and
test it?

It would be good to have actual elevation change. Maybe up the 18 toward Big
Bear/Running Springs? The road gives fairly good coverage of the San
Bernardino area, and climbs up to about 7,000'. Any other routes that might
work?

Another option is to do it like an old fashioned mobile fox hunt. Take the
tracker to an undisclosed location, and see if we can find it. Maybe a hill
top?

Using the tracker and a mobile antenna should give a fairly good radius for
the signal. Move to a different frequency for the test to see how well we
can track directly.

Hi Dave,

How is the photography payload? I am very close to completing the
T3-mini/SRB MX145/ADS-GM2 APRS package. I just tuned the dipole this
weekend. I will send full details once completed.

Are we still good for a dry run with a simulated flight profile? I will
generate a simulated GPS data file and run that into the tracker. The
tracker will be car mounted but we can verify everyone’s gear before the
real launch because they will have to find me!

The winds and winds aloft are somewhat unusual for this time of year. Must
be El Nino or climate change.

But the predictions are actually running favorable to a launch from either
our primary spot, landing in Johnson Valley, or from Lucerne Dry Lake and
landing in the Newberry Springs area.

We may not have to wait for fall...
