Hi Catalina,

Same applies for the Index, but just make sure you do add it to the
appropriate Index Model in the myemb.elt file.

George.

Hi George:

Here it is and thanks.

Producing Cards On A Juliet Classic

Many are asking about embossing on to continuous card stock, and so
I'll do my best to explain the process here. The explanation here is
for DBT 10.7 and an Enabling Juliet Classing braille embosser.

First the nasty bit:

WARNING: Sorry to be rather blunt here, but incorrect use of the
following instructions could cause your Duxbury Braille Translator to
fail, and therefore neither myself nor Duxbury Systems can be held
responsible if you mess this up. If you are not comfortable with
copying and editing files in a text editor such as Notepad, leave well
alone.

You will need to locate a file called emb.elt which will usually be
found in the following folder:

C:\program files\duxbury\DBT 10.7

Make a copy of this file for safety. If you mess it up, you could
mess up DBT. You have been warned.

Emb.elt is the main braille embosser definition file used by DBT
which, among other things, is to allow you to select the form size you
wish to use.

You will need to make a copy of emb.elt, which must be called
myemb.elt and saved in the same folder (above) as emb.elt.

An easy way to do this, is to open emb.elt in Notepad, then select
"Save As" from the File menu. For file name, type myemb.elt and press
the OK button.

If you already have a myemb.elt file, make a copy of it - in fact make
two copies for safety.

At this point, close Notepad and run DBT to make sure nothing has gone
wrong.

It will not be obvious at this point, but DBT should now be looking at
the new file for it's embosser details.

Close DBT and open the myemb.elt file again in Notepad.

Look for the section in this file which begins as follows:

"Enabling Juliet Classic" (including the quotes)

Arrow down to the section which begins with a serious of lines all
beginning with the word "Form" (without the quotes)

I have copied this section of the file below, and you will note that
below the fourth Form line I have added a line which begins with two
plus signs.

You will need to add this line to your own myemb.elt file, but
replacing the two plus signs with spaces. (I have only put the plus
signs there to allow you to quickly find the line in question. I will
explain this line after this.

"Enabling Juliet Classic"

  Form "11_w" = 115 x 110 ; SinglePage ; 42 x 27 ; 40 x 25
  Form "11_vw"= 150 x 110 ; SinglePage ; 56 x 27 ; 54 x 25

  Form "12_w" = 115 x 120 ; SinglePage ; 42 x 30 ; 40 x 28
  Form "12_vw" = 150 x 120; SinglePage ; 56 x 30 ; 54 x 28
  Form "13_n" = 85 x 130 ; SinglePage ; 34 x 32 ; 32 x 30
  Form "13_w" = 115 x 130 ; SinglePage ; 42 x 32 ; 40 x 30

Let me explain this line in case you need to modify it later.

  Form "Card2"= 110 x 30 ; SinglePage ; 40 x 7 ; 40 x 7

Card2 is what should appear in your list of form sizes available for
the Juliet Classic.

110 x 30 represent the width and depth of the form in 10ths of an
inch.

SinglePage simply means just that, as opposed to an embosser which
produces more than one page at a time.

The first 40 x 7 defines the maximum characters per line (40) and
maximum lines per page (7)

The second 40 x 7 defines the recommended should you decide the alter
the numbers in Document or Embosser setup in DBT itself later.

Now save your modified myemb.elt file.

At this point, you should again run DBT to make sure you've not messed
anything up.

If it does fail for some reason, usually deleting myemb.elt will get
you back to where you started.

If you were amending an existing myemb.elt, copy it back from the
copies you made earlier.

Now go to Global: Embosser Setup and look at the Form section where,
probably at the top of the list, you will see "Card2". Select that
form.

At this point, I strongly suggest you try out some test cards - you
can use your normal paper if you wish, rather than waste card stock.

Note that you should only be able to get 7 lines per page, even though
you may have as many as 40 characters per line.

Translate and emboss your test, and ensure that you are in fact
getting 7 lines every 3 inches.

(TIP: Count the holes down the side of the paper. The holes are
every half an inch, so a new label should occur every 6th hole)

Hi, would you by any chance have a copy of that message - even
the subject line, so I can trace it?

        Hi George:

Around a year ago you gave a wunderful explanation of how to
print on index cards using the juliet classic embosser. Now I'm using
the Index basic D. Can you give me the settings for that printer?
thanks for your help.
