Bear in mind that when you insert a file, it does it slightly
differently from coping and pasting.

I did try that before sending out a call for help, but, amazingly, the
page numbers were still in the document. It must have something to do
with inserting files into other files in Duxbury. This function needs
some tweaking by the programmers as I have found several other issues
with inserting files.

Ann,

Go to the Documents menu and select Page Numbering.  You'll find a
series of 
radio buttons that controls the positioning of page numbers for both
odd
and 
even pages.  Select the top radio button in each group, and your page 
numbers will disappear.
