Please tell me why? I have done it at least twice and everything went well. However, the correct thing to do is to put the grade 1 code at the top of the *.dxp print file and then translate.

How about taking the grade two document, making no changes, and back
translatiing to straight text. Once it is normal text, add the grade one
command, and then translate to braille.

The translation grade commands have no effect until you do a
translation.
To go from grade 2 to grade 1 (or the other way), you need to first make
a pit stop at inkprint text.
