Frank,
Embedding footnotes was developed for those who are formatting their documents
in Word. As I recall from previous conversations, you prefer to do it in DBT.
You can do it in DBT, but it's a bit trickier. You have two options on how to
handle this. See the attached files.
1. You can take care of the notes manually, meaning you have to insert the note
separation line yourself, and place the notes at the end of the page. You can
still use the NoteRef for your indicators within the body of text. Be aware
that because this was set up for Word formatting you'll have to insert those in
ASCII (and you don't need to indicate it is "braille" as it is handled with the
style). You'll be able to see how I did that in the file. You certainly can do
the note indicators without NoteRef.
2. For embedded, the big trick to get the footnotes to go in at the end of the
page is to insert the following code at the end of EACH PRINT PAGE that has
footnotes.
[kdtxp~footnote]
You wouldn't have to do that in the Word file, because DBT performs some of its
magic at the time the file is opened in DBT. Because you are doing your
formatting in DBT you'll have to insert it at the end of each page. It's the
only way I could get it to work.
BTW, I am using EBAE note indicators, as I don't know what your print actually
looks like. That obviously changes with UEB and you will need to change them
accordingly.

Subject: [duxuser] Embedded footnotes in a DXP file under version 11.3
I am working on transcribing three large legal guides into Braille using
Duxbury version 11.3. The documents include footnotes with legal reference
information scattered throughout the text. When I read the documents in
formatted mode or in the embossed hardcopy Braille, the footnote numbers are
shown, but the actual footnotes are invisible. However, when I look at the
documents in code view, I can read the footnotes.
How do I code the documents, so the footnotes actually show up in the formatted
text as footnotes? I've poked around in the help screens, and I don't see
anything about footnotes, just page footers, which isn't what I'm looking for.
I've attached an extract from one of the documents which contains a couple of
the problematic footnotes.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
