Subject: 44th Annual CTEVH Conference

The 44th Annual California Transcribers and Educators of the VisuallyHandicapped (CTEVH) Conference will be held March 7-9, 2003, at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Hotel in Burlingame. CTEVH Specialists and other local, state, and national presenters will lead more than 90workshops to improve education services to students who are blind and visually impaired.

State and local school personnel formed CTEVH during the late 1950s to:

"Strengthen working relationships and to exchange ideas among volunteer braille transcribers and school personnel and to improve education services to visually handicapped students."

This year's speakers include:

Mary Ann Siller of the American Foundation for the Blind. She will speak on the Northwest Vista College Braille Textbook Transcriber Program in San Antonio, Texas.

Mike May, who is a pioneer in sports, business, and community service. He underwent stem cell and cornea surgery in 2000. His current dream is the development of a talking global positioning system (GPS) navigation and information system for people who are blind.

Michael Hingson, who was on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001, with his guide dog Roselle. He will tell us of his experience. Years ago, our own Elinor Savage "brailled" him through college years ago.

Free Exhibits

The California Department of Education's Clearinghouse for Specialized Media & Technology (CSMT) coordinates the exhibits for this annual conference.
