This may seem a shade off topic, but for once, we have an
opportunity to try a new feature which I personally believe
will be of benefit to many DBT users.

As you are aware, DBT has become more Unicode oriented, and
can now display many more characters in screen than earlier
versions. Unfortunately the current version of JAWS does
not speak many of these.

I know also from the Duxuser list, and support generally,
that many of you have come across strange characters in Word
files, often for example used for bullets.

I now have a beta Unicode Symbol file for JAWS 7, which may
well make it into JAWS 7.1, with a fuller version planned
for JAWS 8 this summer. Not only does this make much of the
Word Insert Symbol dialog accessible, it also speaks an
English description of all manner of characters, such as the
Telephone character, pointing fingers, Greek characters and
all sorts.

However, I am also concerned that this has no adverse side
effects for DBT users.

If you would like to try this file out, please contact me
directly at george@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and I will send you a
110k zipped eloq.sbl file to try out.

George Bell.
