Hi guys (especially those with a knowledge of WW11 emblems and insignia).
My aunty was married to F/O Gordon Albert (Paddy) Lucas who disappeared
during an operations flight over New Britain in 1943. After being reported
missing for the duration of the war, he was classified "Presumed Dead" in
1946. My aunty married again in 1947 to Sgt Major John Hill and had three
children, dying two days after the birth of the last child in 1954 when she
was only 32. Several years later, my uncle eventually married again and
when he died about twenty years ago, my cousins found a velvet box
containing my aunty's wedding and engagement rings and a tie clip/clasp. It
was a bar with a peaked cap on it. Straight away, they thought that it must
have belonged to Paddy Lucas however, I've searched on the internet and I
can't find anything remotely like it. One person's theory was that it was an
ambulance driver's insignia but surely that would have had a Maltese cross
on it? Someone else thought that maybe it was a British Officer's tie clip?
I don't have a photo of it, sorry, but does anyone know what military bar
would have a peaked cap on it? They all seem to have a crown on the top,
this one hasn't.
