First words:
Is there anything more important than the people you care about?
A young woman on Facebook asked if anyone could share the names
of musicians they knew in or around Austin (TX). I lived in Tow, which
is about 90 miles from Austin, for thirty years and while I only ever
played music in Austin twice, I know a few of musicians who live there
and I'm friends with many of them on Facebook so I went scrolling
through my Facebook friends to answer her question. That, as it
turned out, was a very moving experience. I have Facebook friends
whom I've known for over 50 years and scrolling through them
reminded me of so many stories and events in my life. My kids,
my grandkids, several friends who've passed away, the woman who
was my first love back in 1966, people I've played music with, virtual
friends whom I met a quarter of a century ago on ICQ, AIM or in
internet "chat rooms", people I've helped, people who've helped me,
coworkers, even a few folks who're long-time readers of this humble
publication. People who've had an impact upon my life and people
whose lives I have impacted in one way or another. In the process of
answering a young woman's question I took a long walk though
memories that were happy, funny, precious, sad, mournful and more,
all at once. I'm thinking I should probably go through my address
book now.

Last words:
I don't record music, I don't write songs (or music) and I don't play
in tour bands (because I hate to travel). I am a live musician who
enjoys making music with other live musicians in front of live
audiences. My band, Take Three, is a trio and I've been trying hard
to get us booked but every venue I've approached has asked for a
video. The reason I don't make audio or video recordings is because
I'm not good at it and something always goes wrong when I try.
So I finally asked my friend Solara (an 18 year old multi-instrumental
musician, singer and experienced youtuber) if she would record my
band and make us a two minute demo video. She took the job,
we scheduled a session in our drummer's living room, we got
together and made it happen. Solara and her mom shot the video
with their iPhones, recorded the sound on another gizmo and Solara
(Solbeam Productions) edited the video. I didn't want a glitzy video
with studio quality audio. I wanted it to be a 'what you hear is what
you get' sort of video and I think she nailed it. If you have a couple
