First word, from Don:

Well, it's four days late but here it is. Circumstances
sort of piled up on us for the past few days. Nothing bad,
just lots of income-producing work making demands on our
time and we're compelled to 'make hay while the sun shines'
so the ezine had to wait a few days.

Last Saturday morning I dragged Lisa (virtually kicking and
screaming in protest) to an estate auction where there was
a large collection of musical gear. Wouldn't you know she
found a couple of things she 'just had to have'. I'll let
her tell you all about it in her closing statement. I just
want to take this opportunity to point out that every time
I insist we go do something which she's sure is a terrible
idea she winds up having a good time. Rodney Dangerfield
gets more respect than I do, srsly. :-/

See you next time,

Don

A Little Humor.

Generous lawyer
A local United Way office realized that the organization
had never received a donation from the town's most
successful lawyer. The person in charge of contributions
called him to persuade him to contribute.

'Our research shows that out of a yearly income of at
least $500,000, you give not a penny to charity.
Wouldn't you like to give back to the community in
some way?'

The lawyer mulled this over for a moment and replied,
'First, did your research also show that my mother is
dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that
are several times her annual income?'

Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbled, 'Um ... no.'

The lawyer interrupts, 'or that my brother, a disabled
veteran, is blind and confined to a wheelchair?'

The stricken United Way rep began to stammer out an
apology, but was interrupted again.

'or that my sister's husband died in a traffic accident,'
the lawyer's voice rising in indignation, 'leaving her
penniless with three children?'

The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, said
simply, 'I had no idea...'

On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again, 'So if I
don't give any money to them, why should I give any to
you?'

Last word, from Lisa:

Well, as usual we did something new and exciting! Last
Saturday we attended our first auction. Don was itching
to go because the ad for the auction promised lots of
music equipment was being offered. I wasn't that
enthused at the prospect of spending money, but up
we got (early) and off we went. Well, it was quite
a nice experience. I was enchanted by the sound of
a particular cymbal and it turned out being part of
a set of drums. They were pretty nice so we got 2
nice ride (cymbals) and a high-hat (cymbal) set with
the drums. Here are two posts I made on Google+ with
pictures so you can see how we did on some really great
musical equipment.

http://goo.gl/REcjF

http://goo.gl/YzUzi

We hurried home, worked on this issue (but didn't finish
it), ate a hasty supper, and left for a band gig. Whew!

Once again, the adventure continues.

The most important people on the Internet, for you and
I as computer users, are software developers. The world's
coolest computer, without software, is like a car without
fuel. It might look great, but what can it do?
It doesn't matter who produces the software you love
and use regularly, the developers of that software
need and deserve your support.

A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:

New computer users are often in awe of the things you can
get without cost on the Internet. There can be hidden
costs for the unwary. Use a 'throw away' email address to
register, and be constantly on guard against giving away
personal information. Use a firewall, and provide only
the barest minimum of information on questionnaires.

The Internet: A Weapon of Mass Instruction.
