Yes this is possible.

get it from the bottom
then untar it into tpl/sidebar (in the Dokuiwiki-folder)
Make a change in the /conf/dokuwiki.php:
add: $conf['template'] = 'sidebar'; (I've added this on the 39th
line, but I don't think you have to do that)
As last thing to do, you have to make the sidebar as a page (use:
/yoursite.com//doku.php?*id=sidebar) *You get the message this page
doesnt exist yet, so you hae to fill it with links to the pages you want
to have in the sidebar... Save and go to the startpage, now you should
see the sidebar.
