Avid are said to have paid US$23 million for Sibelius, with plans to offer exclusive product bundles of their highly-acclaimed scoring software with Digidesign's Pro Tools systems. They hope to take advantage of Sibelius' strong following in the education market and use the channels that already exist to distribute their other products to a wider audience. It's also possible that Sibelius' scoring functions will be integrated into future versions of Pro Tools, making it even more attractive to the computer-based musician.
