Avid purchase Sibelius for $23million

British software company is the latest acquisition by Avid
Avid Technology, the owners of industry giants Digidesign
and M-Audio, have announced that they have acquired scoring
experts Sibelius. Avid are said to
have paid US$23 million for Sibelius, with plans to offer
exclusive product bundles of their highly-acclaimed scoring
software with Digidesign's Pro Tools
systems. They hope to take advantage of Sibelius' strong
following in the education market and use the channels that
already exist to distribute their
other products to a wider audience.
It's also possible that Sibelius' scoring functions will be
integrated into future versions of Pro Tools, making it even
more attractive to the computer-based
