From everything I have heard, Tiger is in its very early stages of development... rather primitive. It has been released, but are manufacturers of software for the Mac ensuring their products are even compatible? Jerry, or Kevin, can you tell us more about it? I would like to have a Mac one day just for the variety. My close friend and Worship Pastor uses a Mac, and he swears by it... almost... (Grin!)

Gordon,
I'm not using the Mac for recording.
as I said, I am doing well with Sonar 4 and CT. However, for other computing purposes, I believe the Mac is the way to go. for example, I installed Internet Explorer 7 because Microsoft said it had new enhancements. I found that JFW versions through 7 have not been scripted for this new version of IE. HJ says version 8 of JFW will be compatible with IE 7. I would have to buy 3 upgrades of JFW to get to version 8 to use version 7 of IE. If we're talking about Vista, who knows waht version of JFW will support it. I have been a JAWS user since Jaws for Dos and I think it is time I spread my money around a little. This upgrade treadmill is crazy and I am off of it. You can argue that the Mac is also subject to upgrades and new versions but at least, the speech will be there as a solid core component. Finally, who knows, maybe by the time I have worn out my Sonar 4 box, there will be a new product such as Pro-Talking for Mac brought to us by Dancing Dots.

Have a festive winter holiday,

Fred

I'm migrating to OSX Tiger and Voice Over for every day computing. I am weary of the perpetual JFW semiannual upgrades that do nothing but cause anguish and more expense. I'm doing just fine with Sonar 4 and ct. There's much potential for me left in Sonar 4. More and more I am coming to the conclusion that getting the sounds you want has much to do with the room, board, pre amps, microphones and sound card and not what version of Windows, JFW or Sonar you are using. Its about making music, not constantly buying new software. God bless David Pinto and Dancing Dots but I have reached saturation on software upgrades.

Kevin and James,

Are we being just a wee bit cynical? Well it's clear that my
wife gets no future computer support from me if she migrates
to Vista then.

Thanks for your good advice.

Nothing will work on vista until JAWS does. God knows when
FS will deliver
a 64bit JAWS. It probably won't be available until it's no
longer possible
to buy 32 bit hardware.

We've just acquired a new computer with the XP Home Media
Edition and this
allows a free upgrade to Vista when released. Will SONAR
*and* Sibelius +
the Caketalking and SibSpeaking work on the Home Media and
Vista operating
systems?

11 For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me. 14 I will be found by you," says the Lord.
