Do you have access to, or an account on bookshare.org? They have a couple mixing/mastering books available. https://www.bookshare.org/ Dave Composed on a Dell Latitude 630 in the general vicinity of my Audio Recording and Mixing Studios, San Jose, California ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chelsea" <lady.arwen15@xxxxxxxxx> To: <ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 2010 11:30 Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Software documentation Hey Chris, I don't have that much in the way of knowledge. The radio production class I took only covered the very basics. Not to mention the equipment they used was half accessible, and I didn't have time to learn it with all the other stuff I was doing at school at the time. They had me using CoolEdit and WindowEyes. If I'd known about Sonar and CakeTalking, I would have pushed them to get that. As it was, they wouldn't even get me GoldWave. They already had a JAWS license throughout the whole university. Anyway... Yes, I'm looking for experience to sharpen my skill set, or give me one. I did some very basic editing while at school, and I mean VERY basic. And not a lot of big multi-track stuff either. It was a tough situation all around. I think if I'd had a heads-up on what they were planning on doing as far as accessibility, I might have accomplished more while there. As far as taking a course goes, I've thought of it, and if I would go the route of the university, I'd more than likely have to take a bunch of prerequisite courses, etc. I'd be happy to check out any books you might have on the subjects. Are you trying to get your name out there to learn the craft? Or to apply skills you already have? If you want a list of books on mixing/mastering, let me know. You'll still need CT and Sonar, preferably on a dedicated computer, decent speakers or headphones. Taking a course or two can't hurt either, although books are a cheaper option if money is an issue.
