As much as I agree, I still wonder how well Sonar would run on a Mac Pro. AS time goes on, I'm becoming more and more of an Apple guy with no interest what soever in Windows 8.

I have also tried on more than one ocasion to figure out what was slowing down my Del but I keep hearing that it could be anything in the chain. Even with all the bloatware removed, it still sucks.
I'll look into some of the things DJ mentioned such as the Ivy bridge.
Whatever I buy, it will be out of pocket without any conditional financial aid.
Bob.

Chris is right, with the money you spend on such a mac, I could probably
build you such a computer and still have enough left over for a good
interface and more! :)
It'll be interesting to see how all that stacks up in real worl use with
this new mac pro, specially for daw work, without the common expansions.
USB3 and thunderbult are still not fully adapted in the interface/audio
world, not as much as UBS and Firewire and PCI express at least.

But to second what was said, a dedicated audio daw would do you miracles,
it'll be a hundred or more tracks before you'll run into issues on a proper
build with a good interface, specially when a daw is powered with an ivy
bridge 3rd generation i7 or a 4th generation haswell, they're smoking! Hek,
the sandy bridge daw I just sold could do over 100 tracks with my saffire
when tested, using via firewire chip and on stock speeds.

doubt it.
there is lots of latency in such a setup.

Bob, if you want top notch Sonar performance under Windows, buy a machine
made for audio and music work. This means not going through ADP, but paying
for it through a specialized DAW builder.
Check out:
http://www.studiocat.com/3/index.php/Home

is an example of one such builder but there are many companies who build
PC's for music work.

Chris

P.S. Also consider that you're going to spend about a third more on
equivalent hardware in a Mac as you will in a PC.

This is why I want one. I have been considering
running Sonar with Cake Talking in Windows 7 on
a Mac Pro using Bootcamp for quite a
while. Perhaps all of my audio latency problems will finally go away.

Quoting from a press release at:
http://www.soundonsound.com/news?NewsID=16257

Announcement of a completely redesigned Mac Pro.
The new model, slated for an Autumn release
trades features a much smaller cylindrical
design, only ten inches tall.

Any expansion of the new Mac Pro, which is
conspicuously assembled in the USA, must be done
externally, via the four USB 3 ports, two Gigabit
Ethernet ports or the six Thunderbolt 2 ports.
The Thunderbolt 2 standard, incidentally, is
twice the speed of the previous Thunderbolt and
allows data transfer rates up to 20Gbps and
connection of up to six devices per port.

Speed is king with the new Mac Pro and the design
incorporates Intel Xeon E5 CPUs with up to 12
cores, 1866MHz DDR3 RAM, and PCIe-based flash
storage, which is over twice as fast as regular
flash storage. On top of this, the Mac Pro will
be the first computer to ship with dual AMD
FirePro graphics cards, which can output 4K video.

Although it's branded as the "future of the pro
desktop" by Apple, the Mac Pro's lack of internal
expansion and optical media drive, combined with
its unusual shape, may frustrate Pro Tools and
UAD users, recordists running a mobile rig or
composers using large sample libraries that are
impractical to download. However, the speed of
Thunderbolt 2 makes an external PCIe chassis more
than possible, and optional external optical
drives have been available from Apple for some
time. It will probably only be a matter of time
before a third party comes up with a way of rack
mounting the new hardware as well.

As well as the Mac Pro redesign, the Macbook Air
range has also been updated to feature faster
processors and improved battery life now at a
claimed 12 hours for the 13-inch model. Although
in a real-life recording scenario this would
likely be significantly shorter, it might well
give you enough juice to get through your
recording session if you forget to bring the charger.
