can you tell me the difference between cardiod & super cardiod pickup patterns? I'm looking to isolate-as much as possible-acoustic instruments in close quarters. I just recorded a home jam session with two mics 1) a sm57 on a banjo(which did a great job of isolating the banjo), and an AKG 3000b on a mandolin(which picked up the banjo quited a bit). The mics were back-to-back at about five feet distance.

I'm thinking of using Shure sm or beta 57's on both instruments and wonder what the difference between sm & beta really is. So, again, the blurb on sm57 says cardiod, and beta says super-cardiod-what's the difference? is the sm57 the most uni-directional I can get?
