Hi, I'm posting this for Bryan Smart: VL makes nice sounds, but you have to have dedicated circuitry for each voice. The VL board, for example, plays only a single note of a single instrument. It is still a superior sounding process to sample playback, but, with 8 sample playback elements instead of the 4 elements that have pretty much been the standard for the last 15 years or so on these synths, brass/guitar/string instruments should sound much truer than was possible on the earlier Motifs. Plus, since the new voices will be using the standard sample+synthesis engine, you'll be able to use more than one instrument at a time, and play more than one note from each instrument. Having 8 playback elements is really something in terms of programming possibilities. The Motif ES could use 1GB of sample RAM, but, with USB 1.0, it took over 30 minutes to load or save your sample memory. That is why 1GB of memory was not suggested for ES. Load/save operations will be many times faster than that with USB2. The Motif fx I heard that when Yamaha brought out the Tyros 2, they planned on discontinuing the plg boards option in any keyboards they would release = from then on. That kind of sucks because, especially with the vl plg board, t= hose had some really nice sounds. Also, the new xs can hold 1 gig of sampling= memory, but can't the es unofficially do that already?
