I'll not ever call you a lady. Dave ----- Original Message ----- From: "Annabelle Susan Morison" <foristnights@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, January 26, 2010 09:40 Subject: [ddots-l] Re: laptop power problems One way I'm pedantic is when people call me names that offend. For example, I learned that it's supposed to be very offensive to address a nonroyal female as "Lady" or "Young Lady". However, my family disagrees with me, because they don't look into the history of what they say. This is no joke, and it's not my opinion either. When there's things I like and things that I don't like, I'd much rather have people say that I'm "Particular". When people say that I'm "Picky", to me, it means they hate me for my particularities and who I really am! "Particular" is recommended, "Specific" is all right, "Finicky" is fine, but "Picky" is taking it way too far! In regards to what I like to be called as far as terms of endearment, any little term of endearment is fine with me. My family calls me things like "Honey", "Babe", "Sugar", "Darling", "Sweetheart", "Deary", "Sweetie Pie", "Dear", "Sweetness", and "Honey Bunny". My friends call me things like "Hon", "Dear", "Sweetie", "Honey", "Babe", "Sweetie Pie", "Darlin'", and "Sunshine". Some people call me "Love", which I don't mind at all. One of those instances is when I met Singer/Songwriter Ben Taylor, the son of Singer/Songwriters James Taylor and Carly Simon. When I heard him call me "Love", I smiled sweetly. At least he didn't call me "Lady" or "Young Lady". If he did that, I wouldn't want to be his friend! Which that would've broken my heart, since I love him like he was my brother! He's just about as young as I am, except that he was born on January 22, 1977. So, I'd say he's still in my group of society members. My mom has even made a cutesy name for me, "Honeybelle", which is a combination of "Honey" and "Annabelle". In regards to what I don't like to be called, it's usually anything that associates with the terms "Lady", and "Young Lady". I especially don't like to hear of females outside of the royal families being addressed in this manner. One of my music teachers says that because I hate these terms, he thinks I'm being "Insincere", "Cold", Insensitive", "Sarcastic", and any other bad adjective that you can think of. This teacher of mine is supposed to be my friend, but I just can't seem to make him understand! My mother, for whatever perverse reason, says to me that "I'm the only one out of billions of people in the whole world that is offended with this term". However, I've done research over many years, and it states that "Lady" and "Young Lady", when referring to non-royal females, are supposed to be very demeaning, degrading, and condescending. As a child of the eighties, born on July 15, 1984 to be exact, I was taught, along with many other children of my generation, to shun those in society who even dared use the terms "Lady" and "Young Lady" when referring to females that aren't part of the royal families. You may find this a bit shocking, but I refuse to go into a bathroom with a sign that reads, "Ladies", because that's not what I am! In fact, the companies and facilities that are known for this hayness offense should look into what the term "Lady" means, and no, I don't mean the modern-day definition that you find in dictionaries these days. I mean the one that was clearly made in England! And, these companies should rip the "Ladies" signs off the bathrooms and change them to either "Women" or "Girls". If one bathroom sign reads "Ladies", shouldn't the other one read "Gentlemen"? After all, the counterpart of a "Lady" is a "Gentleman". With the term "Young Lady", when I was growing up, and even to this day, the only way I've heard it being said is in angry tones by Mothers and Fathers, especially when their daughters are still baby girls! I often go into a murderous rage, and my blood begins to boil over like a steaming hot tea kettle whenever I hear the terms "Lady" and "Young Lady", whether it's being said to or about me or any female. Even the facial expression that I give when I hear these terms, which is where you'd see my bottom front teeth sticking out forward, as if I'm about to bite somebody, is just enough to drive anyone to tears. I actually did that to my hairdresser one day, when she called somebody that, and when she saw that expression, she didn't run away from me, but rather, she turned to me with tears in her eyes. I thought she was faking it at first, you know, fake tears and boohoos, but then I realized it when I felt her face, and it was all wet. She told me, "Have mercy, Babe. I didn't mean to offend you." My maternal Grandmother, Grandma Pat, has called me this term, mostly in angry tones by the way, the worst of it was given to me when I was eighteen! This horrible incident happened when we were grocery shopping one warm summer day in August of 2003, particularly to buy food for me. It seems she pulled my last strings, and then we were fight-ting! I happened to stumble across something on my shopping list, a Marie Callender's Spaghetti Entree to be exact, and Grandma went scouring the frozen entrees section, only to find out they didn't have any. So, being the Dirty Dawson that she can be at times, Grandma tried to talk me into buying something different. This led me to say, "But I don't want that kind, I want this kind!" This prompted Grandma to get up all her nerves, and say something to me that I hope one day she'll regret! I don't remember all of what she said, but I do remember that she started off with a stern, "Young Lady!". To this day, Grandma's hurtful words are still clawing at my heart like an angry sea turtle! I wish I could just have a talk with her, but all she wants to do is tell me that what I say about this term is incorrect. Yuck-a-doo! What the heck does she think she's talking about? I'm so much smarter than she gives me credit for. My paternal Grandmother, Grandma Dorcas, whom I never got along with, told me that if I didn't address any females as "Lady" Or "Young Lady, she would slap me in the face! May Bruce Springsteen have mercy on her soul! That's why, when I become a mother, I've made a vow never to call my daughters "Lady" or "Young Lady", no matter how old they may be. By the way, I've never ever ever ever called any female a "Lady" or a "Young Lady", and I refuse to do so, because I do not now, nor will I ever, have any reason to talk to or about the royals. I will make this a house rule, that the phrases "Lady" and "Young Lady" should never be said in my home, since the house rule that I have will consider them to be profanity. The rules in my house, which will be known as "The House Of Philadelphia", will clearly state that no matter who comes over, this means you, "Lady" and "Young Lady" are impolite terms, they are verboten, and they are not to be said under any circumstances whatsoever, especially when referring to little girls! If anyone says these terms, they are to put $10 into a jar each time. For any uses of profanity, they are to put $15 in the jar. Over time, all this money will be donated to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. This means you! Good citizens like you and I, should never say "Lady" or "Young Lady"! And we should never spit out profanity! Eventually, when I have children of my own, if, heaven forbid, my sons or my daughters would dare call anybody a "Lady" or a "Young Lady", I would wash their mouths out with soap until they had the barf ups! That would definitely teach them to respect their mother and father! I apologize for the cruel and unusual punishment of soap in the mouth, but I was unfortunate enough to have that done to me by my mother, even though I did nothing to deserve it! Here's how it happened. When I was four years old, something was going on, where Amber and I were just playing with each other. We were just having a random conversation about stuff we liked, when Mom, suddenly overhearing a little bit of profanity, finally came in and said, "Taste this!". Then, without any warning, she scraped a bar of soap across my teeth. I haven't the faintest idea what kind of soap it was, but I do remember that it definitely tasted like poison! Mom needed a moment to realize that it was not me, but rather, it was Amber who did wrong. She spit out some random profanities, and then she went and did like so many siblings do --- she turned around and placed the blame on me! To tell you the honest truth, I'm sick of all these yucky feelings, and I feel so bruised and battered by all of this torture of being called "Lady" or "Young Lady! So you see what I mean? -----Original Message----- From: ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dave Carlson Sent: Tuesday, January 26, 2010 9:18 AM To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ddots-l] Re: laptop power problems Okay, then I see its genetic, and you just can't help yourself. That requires an electrician to quote you the cost to run those wires in your home. You also need to read the past messages and make note of the recommendations from Steve on using audio isolators in the audio cables. These are also called audio isolation transformers, and also decouplers. Good luck. I just found out, that when I'm running some of my music machines, I get this strange digital grinding noise. I found out that this noise is caused by the power supply on my computer. The power supply I have is one of those ones with three prongs, while the electricity in our house is only designed for two-pronged cords. Since these noises are not something I want to have in my audio recordings. I found out that by unplugging the power supply from my computer, it takes the noises away. However, I'm afraid to run the machine on battery power for more than an hour, since that could make the battery go dead.
