Well as it turns out I will be out of town on Aug 6.

Oh well.

Can someone find a date that works?

Catherine, Have fun at the reunion. No problem with ikordo.

But we need to have some kind of meeting scheduling software though. Did
you try using Google's Calendar?

Also when you get a chance..if you could send a group email with
invitation and how to join the group, I can forward it my contacts to
send it their Oracle folks.

Matthew, On a second thought... since 2 out of 4 will be out, lets plan
and meet when Catherine and Orlando are back. I agree...the more the
merrier :)

Oregon Express

336 E 5th St

Oregon Express is in the (surprise) Oregon District in Downtown Dayton,
just east of the convention Center.

Lexis and Speedway, sounds like a good start. I'm still planning on
being at Oregon Express on Aug 6th, the more the merrier. And the pizza
is good.

I'll bring info on DMA SIGs to the meeting to discuss and post
afterwards.

See ya there,

Thanks, Vijay!

I'm sorry, I never responded about that organizational meeting idea. I
can't make it on Aug. 6, unfortunately, since I'll be out of state for a
family reunion Aug. 1-12. (Unless you'd like to hold it in northern
Minnesota, which would be really nice!) You can certainly meet up
without me, of course. Otherwise, for scheduling another time, I'm
currently peeking around at what Web 2.0 has to offer for meeting
schedulers. I'll let you know if I find anything cool.

Great to hear about people from Lexis! Ask them to spread the word
through their company, too. And I think Speedway's another great idea -
maybe not for a meeting locale, but certainly for a source of members.
Anything in the Miami Valley ought to count - basically, anywhere people
would be closer to Dayton than to Cincinnati or Columbus. Does anybody
know anyone in Speedway's IT?

And, Matthew, that's a great idea about finding potential hosts at
InfoTech. I'll plan to make that my mission, and welcome anybody who
wants to help... especially if you happen to have useful contacts who
will be there.

Oh, finally, Matthew brought up the idea of forming the group as a
Special Interest Group of the Dayton Microcomputer Association. It
doesn't imply any requirement for SIG members to actually join the DMA,
and it would cover most of our needs for organizational boilerplate.
I'd been looking through the IOUG's info page on how to set up the legal
structure of a user group, with respect to incorporation, insurance,
etc., and it made me want to go hide under my desk; having that taken
care of would be beautiful. I think it's a great plan; does anybody
know any drawbacks?

Thanks, everybody!

At this point, I think we need to meet once and chalk out a plan to move
forward.

Speedway is another Oracle Shop but they are far north on 675.

Are we still shooting for August 6th at the Oregon Express? I haven't
been there before. So I need help with directions etc.

Thanks,

It seems odd that while 50% of the people there will be talking about
Oracle, Oracle has no booth. And neither does CSC, owner of the biggest
Oracle contract in the (city, state or world) pick one. Hmmm.

I haven't seen the abstract list of the seminars yet. They had some
good stuff on Grid and RAC last year.

I think instead of recruiting worker bees we should press the flesh with
potential facility providers for meetings and seminars.

Primetime for mooching FOOD (not just snacks) is 11:15 - 12:45 Tues and
Weds. We could grab a table and ward off sales by placing a propeller
beanie in the middle.

Anyone else?

If you're on base, you've probably seen advertisements for AFCEA
InfoTech, Oct. 23-25.

http://www.afcea-infotech.org/

Does anybody have any ideas about how we might be able to make the event
useful to the local Oracle-using community? Its focus seems to be
drearily "blah blah blah contract blah blah facilitate leveraged synergy
blah blah blah".

Still, it's a relatively large event, and they've got the word "Tech" in
the name, and it's hard to just conclude that the whole thing is useless
for actual technical worker bees. In the past, I've gone by the exhibit
hall trying to find and stir up potential Dayton-Oracle list members.
Is there some more efficient way we might use the event to connect to
more of our potential members? (Keeping in mind that our advertising
budget consists of my lunch money.)

Has anyone ever attempted to find or even to present actual technical
content at InfoTech? There's still time to submit an abstract for a
seminar, but I'm not sure technical seminars would be welcome. They're
"business seminars", after all. Hmm, no, wait - you have to pay to
present a seminar. In other words, they're not seminars, they're
advertisements.

Or should we just schedule an informal meetup in the exhibit hall and
mooch snacks while we play with Oracle together on laptops?

Thanks for your thoughts...
