Hi, dancetech-ers!
*Apologies for cross-postings*

I'll be doing a presentation/workshop at the #MobilityShifts conference called Creating Participatory Culture Through Performance and it will focus on using improvisational dance performance frameworks for online collaboration. Through dance-based avatar movement and task-based performance games inside a virtual world, participants will weave a theatrical performance together that encourages active listening, online rapport and instant collaboration. Students in my Collaboration in Networked Environments class (most of whom have no previous dance or performance experience) will participate as performers, along with participants/performers at a partnering Internet Society event in Philadelphia. The use of improvisational performance frameworks for online collaboration allows people to instantly connect and cooperate regardless of geographical location or previous experience with digital media or performance. The performance will be followed by a Q&A in which the performative elements and their relation to online collaboration will be explained along with feedback from student participants. After that, the audience will have an opportunity to ‘embody’ an avatar and participate in an impromptu dance, thereby experiencing the immediacy and connection.

You can join us in the physical space at the New School or in the virtual world Second Life. The event will also be livestreamed. Reservations are going fast, so register soon! http://bit.ly/avdance
