special bonus, you have to complete the stage without firing a single shot.
It's known that it's impossible to get the bonus on most of the bosses.
However, the game records the number of shots in a single byte hex value that
goes from 00 to FF (255). So if you shoot 255 shots and then kill the boss
with one last shot, it resets the counter and you get the special bonus.
