Dear members The Club has been advised by our bank that coincident with the end of the playing season a small but significant number of Direct Debit mandates for monthly membership subscriptions have been rescinded. If you have instructed your bank to cease payment in error ( i.e. in the mistaken belief that subscriptions are due only in ‘the season’) this is no longer the case. Club membership is now continuous and subscriptions should be paid over the whole of the calendar year. This has been the first year over which we’ve collected subscriptions in this manner and it has been something of a learning curve for all of us. The level of monthly payments were carefully calculated to produce an income commensurate with that previously collected through the old system, which consisted of a large lump sum at the start of the season followed by match ‘tithes’ throughout the season. The Club decided to spread the full cost of membership over the calendar year to keep payments down and avoid high payments at the beginning of each season to purchase playing kit. Suspending payment over the close season would therefore lead to serious underfunding of the Club’s activities. If you are one of the small number of members who didn’t intend to terminate your membership in this manner would you please contact the Treasurer (Fred Pell) to arrange recommencement of monthly payments/arrears.
