do what I did:
My passport expires next year so I needed to renew it. I searched on
line via google where to apply to renew my passport.
Passport.govassist.com came up. I went to it and filled out the
required DS-82 form, got a copy, printed it out to be able to add my 2" x
2" picture and mailed to Passport Services, the correct place to request my
renewal. A few days later I received a reply from Passport Services that I
needed to have sent them $130 directly, included with the form for them to
process it. Then I called the government telephone number in the returned
letter. They verified that the money had to be included in the mailing.
I now needed it expedited to get it back in a reasonable amount of time so
I added their required additional $60 to do so. While at the post office
to mail it all back in, I noticed that the post office could process
everything there including taking my photo.
I lost $158.96 to pass.gov.assist.com which my credit card company
verified that they had charged me for just letting me fill out the form.
