homes, but passing on info on the cooling centers that are available throughout
the city in the event it is needed our can be forwarded to friends/family
experiencing emergencies or in need of respite from heat. Info below…

HEAT ADVISORY THROUGH SUNDAY, JULY 10 AT 8:00 P.M.
EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING UNTIL MONDAY, JULY 11 AT 8:00 P.M.
In the event of an Extreme Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service,
this page will be updated with specific cooling center location information.
Cooling Centers are operated during daylight hours to coincide with peak
temperatures. Overnight cooling shelters are dependent upon widespread power
outages and estimated time of power restoration.

Cooling Centers are Available
Many Austin Public Library locations and Austin Recreation and Senior Centers
are available for use as cooling centers throughout the week during normal
business hours (not for overnight services). Please verify hours before
arriving at a location.
Information on locations such as address and hours of operation are available
at the Austin Parks & Recreation website and the Austin Public Libraries
website or by calling 3-1-1. Currently, only service animals are permissible
at cooling centers

Gus Garcia Recreation Center – 12:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Givens Recreation Center – 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
George Morales Dove Springs Rec Center – 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
South Austin Recreation Center – 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Dittmar Recreation Center – 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Austin Recreation Center – 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. (Showers are closed.)
Ruiz Branch Library (1600 Grove Blvd.) -1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Cooling Center
only, not open for normal library operations.)
Little Walnut Creek Branch Library (835 W. Rundberg Ln) - 1:00 pm – 7:00 p.m.
(Cooling Center only, not open for normal library operations.)
Additional Cooling Center Locations
The lobbies of the Travis County Community Centers will be open Monday through
Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Check the link for a location near you.
Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH) located at 500 E. 7th St, is
also serving as a cooling center and is open Monday – Sunday 8:00 a.m – 6:00
p.m.
CapMetro is offering free rides to cooling centers for as long as the excessive
heat warning is in effect. No one will be denied service to a cooling center.
