The City of Austin is launching its yearly Budget Engagement effort to prepare
for the next City budget – and we need your help! Next Tuesday, myself and City
Manager Spencer Cronk, with city staff will be coming out to District 5 to hear
from you. The Budget Talk for our district will include an open house about our

District 5 Budget Talk

For the next three months – through July 15 – we ask for your input on next
year’s budget. Between now and late June, the City will host 11 Budget Talks,
one in each council district and a televised Citywide event at the Austin
Central Library. You can choose to come to any of the scheduled public meetings
or you can learn more and engage online at AustinTexas.Gov/Budget

The City’s current budget is $3.9 billion and pays for such services as public
safety, mobility, parks and recreation, and animal services. Your City tax
dollars and utility bills fund these services, and we want your input on how to
best use these resources to provide the services that matter to you.
As part of budget engagement this year, participants will also have a chance to
learn about the City’s new community outcomes. For the first time this year we
are aligning our budget with the Strategic Direction 2023

for an outcome-based budget. By engaging in our in-person events or online,
you can provide important information about what outcomes you want to see in
our South Austin community.
Interpretation services will be provided in Spanish at all of the public
meetings. Request a language interpreter in another language by calling 3-1-1
no later than 48 hours before the start time of the meeting you wish to attend.

If you can’t make it to our district meeting, you can learn more and weigh in
anytime online or attend any of the other meetings scheduled throughout the
community. And if you miss this period of engagement, there are opportunities
to get involved through September when Council formally adopts the budget. You
can always contact me anytime with your thoughts, questions, and concerns –
about the budget or any other City issue.
However you can, please take at least a few moments to learn more about our new
Strategic Direction, our City budget, and the services your tax dollars pay for
– and to tell me what is most important to you and your family.
As your Council member for District 5, I need to hear from you, so I can work
to incorporate the values and priorities of our district into the next City
budget. I look forward to working together to create an Austin budget for
everyone.
