Below and attached from today, the similarities are eerie. Haiti could
be heading down the road to Iraq. It makes no difference that one is a
200-year old society while the other is 5,000 years old. Each
generation makes its own bed and either saves or scuttles the next
generation. Right now, it looks bad for both.

Hello Stuart
It’s good to hear from you. As to what’s going on In Iraq, it’s a
simultaneously popular revolution against the government corruption,
unemployment, suppression, frustration, lack of basic living services,
including electricity, drinking water, shortage of medical care and
others. Since 2005 till now, people have been complaining and asking the
governments ruled Iraq to carry out their promises put nothing achieved
until these demonstrations erupted every where in Iraq except Kurdistan,
and no one know when the young demonstrators stop. This time is totally
different from the previous demonstrations took place in Baghdad or
Basra. The frustrated people have no choice but continue until a real
change happens. Iraq’s democracy has been derailed by the corrupt
political parties, and this situation requires new leaders with clean
records to put the democracy back on the right track, otherwise the
situation will get worse and the alternative will be a hateful
dictatorship.
This time the United States is required to intervene wisely and quickly
to back the legitimate rights of the demonstrators before the corrupt
political parties suppress these popular demonstrations. In this case,
the Iraqi people lose its confidence in the United States as a backer of
democracy in Iraq.

The situation, especially if the Hashad units are working to suppress
and even kill the demonstrators, is extremely disheartening. How can
Iraq persist under the tremendous corruption and nepotism in which only
th politically connected can have any hope in the future.

IRAQ PROTESTS CONTINUE FOR THIRD DAY DESPITE CURFEW, 21 DEATHS
At least 21 people have been reported killed and hundreds have been
wounded since the violence and clashes between security forces and
anti-government demonstrators first erupted on Tuesday.
Iraqi security forces fired live rounds on Thursday to break up protests
[1] held for a third day in Baghdad despite an open-ended curfew [2]in
effect since dawn.
Iraqi Prime Minister [3]Adel Abdel-Mahdi ordered the ban on movements
across the capital starting at 5:00 am to stem the popular
demonstrations [4]over widespread unemployment and state corruption.
Twelve people were killed late Wednesday in the southern cities of
Nasriyah, Kut, and Amara. The dead were protesters and one policeman,
according to security officials.
Iraq’s state news agency said Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi
invited representatives of the protesters to come to the parliament
building to discuss their demands.
On Thursday morning, riot police fired in the air to disperse several
dozen protesters gathered in the emblematic Tahrir Square in defiance of
the curfew, an AFP photographer said.
Tensions have been exacerbated by a near-total internet [5]blackout, the
closure of government offices in Baghdad and calls by firebrand cleric
Moqtada al-Sadr for “a general strike.”
Before dawn twin explosions hit the Green Zone, where some ministries
and embassies are located and which was struck by two rockets last week,
a security source in the area told AFP.
The apparent attack came hours after security forces sealed off the
Green Zone “until further notice” just a few months after it was
reopened to the public, fearing angry protesters would swarm it.
Overnight, two protesters were killed in the southern city of Kut after
they tried to storm a local government office, medics and security
sources told AFP.
Another two demonstrators died further south in Nasiriyah, which has so
far seen the deadliest protests [1]with a total of eight protesters and
one police officer killed.
And two have died in clashes in Baghdad, bringing the nationwide toll in
the protests [1]since Tuesday to 13 dead and more than 400 wounded,
according to health authorities.
Riot police in the capital have used water cannons, tear gas, rubber
bullets and live rounds in an attempt to force protesters out of Tahrir
and other areas in Baghdad.
