Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Port-au-Prince, Haiti (November 29, 2018)
Location: Haiti.
Event: The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince remains open for American
Citizen Services, as well as immigrant and non-immigrant visa
appointments.
On November 29, the U.S. government authorized the voluntary departure
from Haiti of non-emergency U.S. government personnel and their families.

American employees may only make essential movements around
Port-au-Prince, and are prohibited from traveling within Haiti beyond a
5-mile radius of the Embassy without prior Chief of Mission approval.

Do not attempt to drive through barricades or protests. Avoid large
gatherings of people.Contact your family to keep them informed of your
welfare and whereabouts

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all but essential
travel to the Carrefour, Cite Soleil, Martissant and Bel Air areas of
Port-au-Prince due to the unstable and dangerous security situation.
Following major protests in Port au Prince and elsewhere in Haiti from 17
to 19 November, disruption may continue. Demonstrations could occur at any
time and may turn violent. The movement of goods and people into and
within the country may also be disrupted due to blocked roads and security
incidents. You should remain vigilant at all times, avoid all
demonstrations and large public gatherings, monitor local media, follow
the advice of local authorities and keep up to date with this travel
advice. The following local FM radio stations broadcast in French and
Kreyol: Radio Metropole 100.1; RFM 104.9; Radio Kiskeya 88.5; Radio IBO
98.5; Radio ONE 90.5; Radio Nationale d’Haiti 105.3; and Radio Pacific
101.5.
