I just wanted to make everyone aware of a great resource that is newly
available. The Creole Institute at Indiana University has recently
published its English-Haitian Creole Bilingual Dictionary (EHCBD), now
available on www.Amazon.com and other booksellers. It is the most
extensive bilingual dictionary available today anywhere, bar-none. The
English-Haitian Creole Bilingual Dictionary (EHCBD) aims to assist
anglophone users in constructing written and oral discourse in HC; it also
will aid HC speakers to translate from English to their language. As the
most elaborate and extensive linguistic tool available, it contains more
than 30 000 individual entries, many of which have multiple senses and
include subentries, multiword phrases or idioms. The distinguishing
feature of the EHCBD is the inclusion of translated sentence-length
illustrative examples that provide important information on usage. It is
available in hardcover, paperback, and Kindle (electronic), and all at
very reasonable prices. You can use the Amazon "look inside" the book
feature to see for yourself. You can also look for its companion volume
the Haitian Creole-English Bilingual Dictionary (HCEBD), published in
2007, an equally great resource. Right now it is only available on the
Creole Institute's website at Indiana University, but it will soon be
available on Amazon and other booksellers.
