Thanks Stuart. This was indeed an important assessment of critical
places in the environment and what should be done to preserve them.
Sergile later received one of those MacArthur "Genius Grants" to create
a program of environmental education for Haiti. I observed the
instructional materials and a couple of sessions for teachers. The
materials included works especially commissioned by Haitian artists but
much of the emphasis was on using whatsoever was handy in the local
neighborhood. This was part of creating awareness and at the same time
avoided having to import or wait for donations of expensive materials
form overseas. These efforts have been significant but are in need of
wider and deeper public awareness and support.
