Hi folks--
I was hoping to get some tips about the best version of Xulrunner to use with
Conkeror.
I stayed with version 24.0b10 for years, since I found that that's the latest
version that doesn't suffer from the issue where web pages that accept keypress
events get first crack at them before Conkeror does, and can even prevent
Conkeror from seeing them at all. However, a small but growing number of sites
have been breaking under that version, due to styling problems that render
their pages illegible or other issues--I can't load any page on emacswiki.org,
for example ("The network link was interrupted while negotiating a
connection.") That, plus a concern that I might be leaving myself open to
unfixed Javascript vulnerabilities led me to recently try using one of the
latest Xulrunner versions, 41.0b9.
Well, the rendering and connection issues are solved, but there are a raft of
new issues, including:
- The keypress-event issue is back. I can't close a buffer visiting eg.
Facebook with "C-x k" if that buffer is the current one, because Facebook
swallows the "k".
- New downloads do not appear in the builtin Download Manager.
- The current tab is not highlighted.
- Keyboard navigation on DuckDuckGo (j-down, k-up, o-open, etc) no longer works
("call interactively: TypeError: window.nkda is not a function").
Possibly improved security aside, it definitely feels like a downgrade.
So... Can anyone recommend a particular Xulrunner version that presents the
minimum number and/or severity of issues like the ones I mentioned? Or some
incantation that solves them entirely would be nice as well.
